Happy Birthday Brenda Joyce

To: Brenda Joyce

From: Your first grandchild.

A Letter:

You fought a fight that nobody wanted you to do. You were the life of the party. My best friend. My backbone. My mother. My grandma. I could sit up here and ask this question over and over of why but I know not to question God and his doing. You are watching over us. You come to us in our time of need and Lord knows that I need you the most. Life without you is like trying to breathe but there's no air. There are days that I just wanted you to answer the phone and say "Hey Kaia how are you?" or the days when only you knew that something was wrong and nobody else knew. As we celebrate your birthday today I know they say that over time it gets easier but does it really? Because when you left so did I. A part of my soul and a piece of my heart went with you.

Brenda Joyce, you know how many times I have tried to write this to you? Of course, you do because you are standing behind me as I type and telling me to wipe my tears. Grandma, I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for the life that you have given me. Thank you for the memories that we shared. Thank you for always believing in me when nobody else did. Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for being you. I couldn't have asked for a better grandma. I pray that I am half as strong that you were.

Every day I choose to be like you. Even though you tell me to be better than you. You are my role model. I want to be Brenda Joyce Jr. When people see me I want them to see you radiating through me. Because your name will not go out in vain, not by me. You got your flowers while you were still here and danced and sung your way to Heaven. Kiss & hung Uncle Eric and Van Joseph for me. I love you so much. I pray that I am still making you proud from the Heavens above.

I title this poem "Brenda Joyce" in dedication to my best friend and grandma.

Brenda Joyce

When I look up into the sky I see nothing

but I feel everything.

I feel the warmth that you bring me

The comfort of knowing that even though you have transitioned you are still here

You are the one who I can go to

The one who was strong when I didn't know how to be

The one who understood me for me

Who never judged anyone

Was a stranger to none!

You are the backbone of our family

The reason why we are all the way we are

We look up to you the way a family should

Understanding that life isn't forever is hard

But it's even harder knowing that you aren't here

I am happy you aren't suffering anymore

But sad it had to end like this.

Our last goodbyes was a happy time

I just wasn't ready to say goodbye

You knew that your time was coming

You knew that before you left

You wanted to be surrounded with love

And we did just that.

Happy Heavenly Birthday Grandma. May you rest now grandma. Continue to watch over us. I love and miss you dearly. Until we meet again ...
