My Favorite Poem
My favorite poem is Don't Quit (I do not know the author). I learned this poem while going through my process for my sorority. This poem has gotten me through the toughest times of 2017 and still is. I hope this poem is able to give you the motivation that it gives me when I need a pick me up!
When people pull you down and often times they will
When the battle you're fighting seems all up hill
When your funds are low and your debts high
When you're laughing although you'd rather cry
When you feel yourself slowing down a bit
Stop...
Take a deep breath...
But don't you quit
Success is failure turned inside out
the silver tint in the cloud of doubt
You can never tell how close you are
You may be near when it seems afar
So stick to the fight when your hardest hit It's when things go wrong when we must NOT quit
My next favorite poem is Invictus by William Ernest Henley. I learned this poem while going through my process as well. This poem taught me how to stay strong and regardless of what is happening you are in control of the outcome or how you plan to react.
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
